BioFire Testing System New to CMH
Community Memorial Hospital has purchased a new system that will help our community fight COVID better.
The system is called a BioFire testing system. The BioFire system allows for a rapid in-house testing of 22 combined viral and bacterial pathogens including SARS COV-2 with a nasal swab collection. In most cases, results can be completed within 45 minutes depending on volume. This will allow providers to more quickly rule out other infections in a patient with systems of respiratory infection. This testing is intended for critical patients use as availability of the reagent is limited.
In addition to the Biofire testing system, CMH offers Siemens SARS-CoV-2 Total Antibody Testing using a patient’s blood sample using our current Siemens chemistry analyzer. Allows for identification of patients who have developed an adaptive immune response which indicates recent infection or prior exposure to COVID 19. Our Siemens antibody testing reports a numerical result expressed as an index value that is reported as a positive or negative result for SARS- CoV-2 Total Antibodies. This testing in most cases will have results within the same day.
All COVID and antibody testing must have a physician order. One exception to this rule is the antibody testing that is available during the Health Fair.
